The SS oath

The Germanic oath, called Schwurhand , still used today by the Vatican guard has ancient origins: a symbolic runic gesture linked to the pre-christian spiritual tradition.

The Schwurhand is a heraldic charge depicting the hand gesture that is used in central Europe when swearing an oath in court, in office or in swearing-in. The right hand is raised, with the index finger and middle finger extended upwards; the last two digits are curled downwards against the palm. The thumb is shown slightly curled or raised.

The use of the gesture dates back many centuries. Recruits of the Pontifical Swiss Guard at the Vatican City use the sign when swearing their oath of allegiance to the Pope, in a ceremony performed on 6 May every year since the Sack of Rome in 1527. The use of the three digits is said to symbolise the three elements of the Holy Trinity.

Depictions of the Rütli Oath or Rütlischwur, the legendary founding oath of the Old Swiss Confederacy in the 14th century, show the participants using this gesture.

It was also used by members of the Waffen SS, Reichswehr and Hitler Youth when swearing the Hitler oath. Curiously, the ritual formula to pronounce during the SS oath SS is similar to what the Papal Guard today delivers.

Gott/Got (English word god) it is a purely germanic word, and does not exist etymologically in any biblical context. It only became associated with the christian and general religious attitude of whichever supreme being after early missionaries appropriated the word to explain the concept of their ‘divinity’ to the indigenous populations of northern Europe: before which the word was connected with their native gods.

The English word God continues the Old English God (guþ, gudis in Gothic, gud in modern Scandinavian, God in Dutch, and Gott in modern German), which is thought to derive from Proto-Germanic *ǥuđán.

The Proto-Germanic meaning of *ǥuđán and its etymology is uncertain. It is generally agreed that it derives from a Proto-Indo-European neuter passive perfect participle *ǵʰu-tó-m. This form within (late) Proto-Indo-European itself was possibly ambiguous, and thought to derive from a root *ǵʰeu̯- “to pour, libate” (Sanskrit huta, see hotṛ), or from a root *ǵʰau̯- (*ǵʰeu̯h₂-) “to call, to invoke” (Sanskrit hūta). Sanskrit hutá = “having been sacrificed”, from the verb root hu = “sacrifice”, but a slight shift in translation gives the meaning “one to whom sacrifices are made.” Other school of thought believes that the word comes from Sanskrit “gau” meaning cow considered sacred.

Concerning SS oath formula: Reichsfuehrer Heinrich Himmler himself was conscious of this, he is recorded as having made a great fuss of how the modern germanic spelling with two tees, ‘Gott’ was a christian literary corruption, and ‘Got’ was the true german spelling of the word.

Originally, the Aesir were just three: Odin and his brothers Vili and Vé: the names of the first three Æsir i all refer to spiritual or mental state, vili to conscious will or desire, vé to the sacred or numinous and óðr to the manic or ecstatic.
